Learning: An Invitation to Liberation

Those inclined to learn will tell you how important it is to acquire necessary knowledge. This is the main distinction between the skilled and the unskilled. The skilled are those who successfully acquire the relevant knowledge that qualifies them to influence society.

I watched a video where a parent asked their kids to use a dial-up telephone. The kids could however not figure out how to use it. I am positive these same kids can handle the more sophisticated phones of today. Even the majority of games they play online today are a lot more complex than dialing an old telephone. But the reason it was difficult for these kids to use a dial-up phone was simply because they have not learnt how to.

It is therefore important to know that learning has nothing to do with the complexity of the subject; it has to do with whether or not we are knowledgeable in that area. Learning remains one of the most important aspects of human life. It has been said that when we stop learning we stop growing.

I want to challenge you with some questions. What are you learning and how is the knowledge you are acquiring significant to the fulfillment of your purpose? Why is what you are learning important to you? What is the source of what you are learning? Who is your teacher?

What we learn and whom we learn from are some of the most crucial decisions that directly impact what we become. It is important to note that not all knowledge liberates; it is only the truth that set’s free. Learning from the best is therefore essential. And who would be the most qualified to teach us except the one whose knowledge of the truth can truly liberate us.

The bible recorded a public invitation from Jesus to all who are looking for answers. It is a call to liberation, with the promise of providing rest to those who care to come and learn. There are two things in that call that are crucial – the first is the qualification of the teacher, and the second thing is the concept and knowledge itself.

What then is hindering us from going to learn from the wisest man who walked this earth? We should be well assured that learning from Jesus is the greatest opportunity we have to learn the truth. Jesus is the embodiment of truth and life; and outside of Him, we have nothing. When He said, “Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.” (Matthew 11:28), it is a call with the certainty that He has the answers to whatever our concern is. But He wants us to come and learn

Learning is vital because we are obligated to gain the understanding that equates to whatever our situation is. This helps us be knowledgeable and confident enough to exercise our God-given privileges. It is God’s intention that we become the master of our own lives, rather than always looking for someone to fix us.

We should always have the attitude of someone who is willing to learn; because a good learner will one day become a great teacher. You have the capability to chase a thousand; but when you acquire adequate knowledge, your efficiency and effectiveness is doubled to chase ten thousand

When we learn from Jesus who is the most authentic source of truth, we are exposed to eternal wisdom. And wisdom is what makes everything God created work the way they should. He is the only source of the knowledge that will set us free from all our circumstances. The evidence that we have received his truth is seen in the rest we have. In His word, Jesus said, “…I will give you rest…, and you will find rest for your souls.” (Matthew 11:29)

Liberty and rest are the end results of all our struggles. That is when we seize from all our labors. Our desires should therefore be to access our inheritance offered through the call of Jesus to come and learn from Him. If you answer the call today, your learning process will begin and you become one step closer to your rest and liberty.
