Last week we discussed how truth is the key to life. Truth operates like a key. It opens the doors of practical reality. Every truth discovered is an open door, and whenever there are challenges or uncertainty, it is because the truth to unlock that door is not yet known.
Keys are designed to operate differently; just like the knowledge of the truth. One key cannot open all doors.
Therefore, having knowledge in one area of life will not solve all the challenges of life. To solve a relationship problem, we need knowledge that applies to that relationship issue. If it is a self-esteem problem, we need to find the knowledge to improve our self-esteem. And health issues will require knowledge in that field to take care of such a problem. Therefore, specific to each problem is a specific knowledge that will solve that problem. Let’s ask ourselves a sincere question – why do we try to engage our challenges with one single approach knowing fully well that one key cannot open all doors and one truth cannot be the answer to all problems?
As a young boy growing up in a poverty-stricken family, I always asked myself, “Why is my family not rich?” My idea of being rich was at least owning a car. But we could hardly even afford to eat whatever we wanted and there was not enough money to cater to some of our other necessities. There was nobody in my family that worked in any known organization, except for my aunt who was a midwife. She stood out because she had a government paying job and her profession was a life-saving necessity in an environment where the majority of the people could not afford to pay hospital bills. So, she was like a God-sent person to the residents who needed medical care but couldn’t afford the medical bill. But even with her job, she was not making a lot of money; because she also could not afford a car of her own. She was however able to sustain the family with the monthly savings from her job and the money she made from her in-house pharmaceutical store.
As a kid, my idea of getting out of poverty was to travel outside the country and do whatever job I could lay my hands on. I never thought that the key to combating poverty was education, because there were a lot of educated people that were still poor. It also didn’t cross my mind that venturing into a form of business will change my status. I saw family members who struggled to try to start a business or those who could not sustain their business and were always getting into debt. In a nutshell, there was no role model for me to look up to for the answer to my questions.
My second option for getting out of poverty was to attend the Nigerian National Defense Academy and become an Army officer. This was something I was always fascinated with. Military officers seemed to be well respected, and their standard of living seemed reasonable to me. At the least they were living better than average citizens. But that plan also didn’t play out well for me. So I resorted to focusing on God; praying, seeking and attending church services for more understanding of how to have a change in my life.
Growing up in a Christian family already gave me the understanding of God being all-sufficient. So, years later I found myself attending a Pentecostal church pastored by a man who knew something about the principles of success and living a prosperous life. His teachings anchored on making God the only priority. He was not just a prosperity teacher; Bishop David Oyedepo was a stickler to the revelations he had received from God. Sitting under his teachings for four years changed my perspective about the journey to becoming a successful person.
I believe finding a role model is an important key to success in life. I can still hear his voice echoing in my head saying, “The word of God is the answer to all questions and the miseries of life!” From his teachings, I learned the truth about divine healing, salvation, wisdom, commitment, diligence, discipline and giving. And to top it all, he would say, “It is not from abroad but from above.” Meaning that the key to successful living is not by going overseas, but from God. He particularly made these two famous statements of his – “I can never be poor!” and “I cannot be sick!” Well, he was right; because through the word of God he had found the key to success, financial prosperity, and divine healing. His teachings completely transformed me and my outlook on life and my future.
The knowledge of the truth is the key to life. Finding the right key is the answer to any challenge of this life. Any area of your life that you are dominating is as a result of a key you found; it is a door you have unlocked through the knowledge of the truth. You cannot find the key to answered prayers and think it is the same key to financial prosperity. No. These are two different concepts and keys. Prayer will show you the key to financial prosperity and the wisdom to implement a financial strategy. But the key to prosperity will not open the door to the power of praying to receive answers.
There is really no confusion regarding this truth. We all have keys and we know what they are meant for. A car key will not open the door to the house, and vice versa. These keys are designed for different purposes and for locking/unlocking different things. What door do you intend to open? Find the key that works for it. What challenges are you encountering? Find the principles and truth that will solve that issue. When you find it, you will know that you have the right key because you will have unlimited access.
Through God’s grace, I have had the privilege of finding some keys that have eternally opened some doors for me. First is a godly marriage, second is revelations, and another is true riches and wealth. And you honestly don’t have to be smart or super intelligent to find these keys. God is always ready to give us our desires if only we would seek Him. He is a good God who will not withhold good things from us.
As the new year approaches, let the cry of your heart be to find the right keys for a glorious life. And as you seek God for a change He will open exceedingly great doors for you in 2019. Amen.
