Genesis 1:2 says of the Spirit of the Lord, “The earth was without form, and void; and darkness was on the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God was hovering over the face of the waters.”
The scriptural passage above did not detail any other function of the Spirit besides that He was hovering. Why was the Spirit hovering over the face of the waters? I believe the Spirit of God played an essential role in making creation possible. He is behind anything that has the signature of God on it. Another verse in the book of 1st Corinthians chapter 2 (verse10) explains the role of the Spirit in the works of God. It says He searches the deep things of God and brings God’s work to light. Everything is by His Spirit.
So how then can mortal men comprehend the immortal God? What makes it possible for believers to relate with a God who is a Spirit? It is through the Holy Spirit in our lives; who stands as our “Helper” (John 16:7) and reaches out to the supernatural realms of God. It is not by any man’s power or might.
Every true knowledge of God in our spirit is His work. We cannot access, know, or relate with God beyond the help of the Holy Spirit. In other words, anything we think we know about God, without the help of the Holy Spirit, is an assumption and is far from who God is. The Spirit of God is the ONLY true revealer of the living God. Even our Lord Jesus Christ was filled with the same Spirit.
A very important question to ask is this: Do you know the Holy Spirit as your Helper? Life without Him would be a struggle! He is the only true Helper anyone could ever have. And the good news is that you can start a relationship with Him today. Once you do so, He will reveal God to you, and show you how God works in your life. Everything God does or is doing is by His Spirit. Do not let your life be an exception.
