I will be highlighting two important aspects of the prophecy we have been discussing for the past few weeks. These two highlights sum up into one thing – our spiritual maturity.
The Lord said, “…I will take you into the mature things.”
First thing to note is that there must be a good reason why God wants to take us into mature things (the revelation of His word). This is also a strong indication that there are immature things. Hebrews 5:13-14 states, “For everyone who partakes only of milk is unskilled in the word of righteousness, for he is a babe. But solid food belongs to those who are of full age, that is, those who by reason of use have their senses exercised to discern both good and evil.”
The difference between the mature and immature things is the difference between a baby and an adult. What authority or responsibilities can be given to a baby? None. But the matured adult has experience and knows how to be responsible and deal with reality.
The nature of our assignments, or whatever God has called us to do, will require that we be spiritually mature. Spiritual growth is a non-negotiable requirement if we want to access God’s depth. However, God is not responsible to take us into spiritual maturity. What it requires is self-discipline and passion if we want to enjoy that grace.
Among other things, the primary way to attain spiritual maturity, is to seek understanding through the application of the word of God. Paul told Timothy to study to show himself approved to God. In 2 Timothy 2:15, it says, “Be diligent to present yourself approved to God, a worker who does not need to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.” How skillful are we in the word of righteousness? If God is going to depend on us to speak on His behalf we better know how to ‘rightly divide the word of truth’. And ‘rightly dividing the word of truth’ means being able to accurately understand, interpret, and apply the Word of God by the help of the Holy Spirit.
Imagine yourself owning the largest conglomerate in the world and you need someone to be your spoke-person. What do you think the qualification of that person should be? Will you choose an immature person with no depth of the required responsibility and who has zero experience? Or will you assign a well-seasoned and qualified individual to represent you? Of course, you will want the most qualified person who will set the right standard and accurately represent you and your ideals. You will choose a matured person.
In the same way, God will not settle for less. We need to govern our lives with the principles of God’s word; knowing how to discern right from wrong. This will determine the authority that will be made available to us.
He said, “I am taking you into the place where the word has to be written in your heart and in your mind. It has to be written in your spirit so that you can be able to withstand the days that are ahead. It is the same word you will take and instill in the heart of those that I have chosen; because men will be weak as the day comes. Men will be torn in pieces in their hearts, but it is not My will for them to be torn in pieces. It is because their hearts are not established in the truth that I have spoken several times.”
The second thing to note is that we have to be positioned in God’s covenant. He made a new covenant enacted by Jesus. Rather than having His word written on the tables of stone, as it was with Moses, God is inscribing His word in our minds and hearts. We are His templates. Hebrews 10:16 says, “This is the agreement (testament, covenant) that I will set up and conclude with them after those days, says the Lord: I will imprint My laws upon their hearts, and I will inscribe them on their minds (on their inmost thoughts and understanding)” AMPC. The Message version puts it this way, “This time “I’m writing out the plan in them, carving it on the lining of their hearts.”
When the Word is finally inscribed in our minds and hearts – residing in our innermost thoughts as covenanted by God – then we can sincerely impart it to those who are weak and vulnerable. Maturity will give us access to God’s secrets.
People’s heart being ripped apart with fear is the result of a lack of a strong foundation in the truth – Jesus Christ. Seeking spiritual maturity and getting the word inscribed in our hearts is what establishes us in the truth. And our only hope for survival in the days of calamity is to be rooted in Christ -The Truth.
Let’s begin to seek God in spirit and truth; with our hearts rooted in His word until we become immovable by circumstances around us. This is true spiritual maturity! It is the matured ones who will stand on His platform to access His revelations, and to see, hear and understand from His perspectives. Then they will declare His kingdom come and His will be done.
Amen.
