A philosopher once said, because you think, it means you have a mind. Having a mind indicates you exist. The race of life is challenging, especially when trying to figure out who we are and why we are here. Sometimes we assume that others have it better than us. All these assumptions have nothing to do with the truth. And the truth is we have what it takes to be who we need to be. There is more to our abilities; we have just failed to pay attention to our creativity.
Creativity is like exploring a land to discover its treasure. The more you dig, the more you will discover. Creativity also involves the use of the brain to experiment with ideas that we come across. Those ideas are very important, if we acknowledge them. But the problem is we don’t pay enough attention to the value and power we have. This is one of the disservices we do to ourselves – not believing in the power that we have within us. The majority of those who have attained excellence in what they do are individuals who strongly believed in their creative power.
Lisa Gerrard is an Australian musician and songwriter. I was captivated by the uniqueness of her voice and one her song s which was featured in the movie “Gladiator.” Lisa’s song “Elysium” was a song composed based on her imagination and is not in any language spoken on this planet. Yet the song was featured in an epic movie with millions of viewers. There is truly no limit to your creativity.
Since Lisa’s song was not in a known language, she determined what the lyrics and the interpretation of her song would be. What a genius! And this was possible because she believed in her creative ability. Whatever she had going on in her mind fascinated her to the point where she couldn’t keep it to herself. She had to reveal it to the world. And Hollywood was happy to accept it.
What I’m getting at is we all have that hidden treasure and the power to create. We need to wholeheartedly explore it and not ignore or look down on it. You and I have a blank cheque which we can fill out and remit as much as we need from the overflowing resources of our creative bank account.
Let’s be honest here. Whatever you are spending time doing is the path that determines if you will become creative or not. Anytime I meet new people, I see in them what I could possibly call a hidden treasure of endless potential; but I may not know what that is. However, I am convinced it is there. How do I know? Wherever I see a fish I know it can swim I don’t need a prophet to tell me. In the same way, each person has a great level of potential in them. And that potential is asking to be discovered.
It would have been a great failure if mankind had not discovered that from a tree, we can make tables, chairs, and much more. Imagine if we had reduced the purpose and value of trees to just being standing monuments in the forests, waving their branches and leaves, and being a perch for birds. Won’t that be a major let-down? It would! Because whether we had figured it out or not, the potential of the tree would always be innate in the tree. Discovering what the tree could do was our responsibility and it worked to our advantage. If we had failed, we would have degraded the importance and value of the tree and missed out on all the benefits.
You and I are can be likened to trees. We have the ability to create many things; we just haven’t discovered them. There are God-given unique abilities within us that set us apart. Taking the time to cultivate those abilities in order to express our true greatness is an act of wisdom. Without it, life would be a series of frustration. It is your duty to believe in what you have and start creating new things with your abilities. Start today!
