A night before I wrote this message I woke up in the middle of the night wondering in my heart what exactly was going on. This is just one of my methods of having a conversation with God the Creator of all. Sometimes we get a little bit impatient when going through life’s process, especially whenever we feel things are not aligning the way we expect they should. After a few questions and some meditation, I went back to sleep. But soon after I was awake again with Genesis 25:22 impressed on my mind. I immediately reached for my phone to check what was in the verse – maybe it had the answer to the questions I just asked.
The verse was referring to Rebekah the wife of Isaac, the son of Abraham. She was barren but eventually got pregnant but was experiencing some challenges during her pregnancy. She might not have considered the challenges that comes with pregnancy. In her moment of struggles and not being sure of what the problem was, she went ahead to inquire from the Lord. She was probably thinking, “Why would something that is supposed to bring joy create chaos?” I guess that was my question too before I woke up with the above verse. And this might also be a question in your heart regarding some things going on in your life.
We need to realize that what we are going through, most of the times, is due to the fact that we are carrying the agenda of God within us and not only our human desires. Rebekah wanted a child, but she got more than what she hoped for. From her inquiry, she discovered that the Lord had placed two nations in her womb – the twins Jacob and Esau. Jacob became Israel and Esau became the father of Edom. These are two completely different nations that God had planned for before Rebekah even thought of wanting to have children. So, although she wasn’t expecting to carry two “nations”, it was part of God’s agenda. And in the same way, long before our parents actually met each other, God already knew us and had big plans for us.
I kept meditating on this truth, and it has been very hard to just let it go. I think it is fascinating to understand that nobody is an afterthought; no one! No human being just landed on planet earth as a mistake of his or her parents. I know some may think they are “mistakes” because their parents were not prepared to have any more children but then had them. And while it may be true that some of our parents were not planning to have us, still no one is a mistake; because God knew us before we were even conceived.
If we agree that God was handling His plan and process long before we knew about them, we should understand that there are things designed for us to accomplish here before we were born. And we cannot abort God’s idea. It is the seed of purpose and destiny. He formed that idea and placed it in your life before you came into your mother’s womb. That idea is as old as your pre-existence, so don’t mess with it. Those two kids Rebekah was carrying had no clue they are arriving here on earth to become two separate nations. That was God’s idea. That thing in you is God’s idea and not yours. It is God’s dream and we are only the carriers of that dream to bring it to pass on earth, and to be reckoned with in the heavens. You can’t kill that dream; it’s God’s baby!
We need to acknowledge the fact that we are unique individuals. Everything that makes us unique is part of our design. We need to be very cautious when we have certain ideas and decide we just want to disregard or discard them. What if those ideas were placed there by God? God’s idea is like a baby that we cannot abort. It does not matter how many weeks old the pregnancy is; life is already existing. Killing it will be killing God’s creation.
Some of our ideas for a great future will seem insignificant to us. And until we start paying more attention to it, we will not see the fullness and magnitude of that dream, not to mention seeing it realized. The majority of great ideas and dreams are killed in our minds because we fail to realize they were God’s dreams. And one of the reasons we don’t understand this is because those ideas sometimes come disguised as personal desires. But within those desires is hidden God’s agenda. We might resolve that it is a personal desire to become great and successful, but in the mind of God, that passion came from Him for His glory. So if you abort that dream you have hindered God’s agenda in your life.
I’m a firm believer in God’s purpose and agenda for all of His creation. And no matter what is going on, we are obligated to nurture what we have until it is revealed. And whenever we find ourselves struggling to understand what is going on, prayer is always a great tool for clarifying things. Our struggles might just be because we are carrying “nations” in our heart.
Remember, nothing about us or our journey surprises God. He knew every bit of our entire lives before we came to be; and He is always there to give us the needed clarity we seek. So, it is our responsibility is to go and inquire from the Lord on what to do with those dreams/ideas to ensure that the “nations” within us are born.
