Understanding (Part 5): Self-Understanding III

You are a spirit being with a soul and lives in a body. Why is this lesson important? It is to create awareness of your Self-Understanding. You need to know what is responsible for where you are and where you are heading in life.

Now, your spirit, soul, and body, all relate with three powerful factors which are your Thoughts, Relationships, and Environments. Meaning that your spirit, soul (mind), and body cannot function without your thoughts, your relationships, and your environment.

Spirit, Soul & Relationships

This teaching focuses on how your spirit and soul work with the relationships around you. There are three types of relationships that exist: Mentors, Peers & Protégés

You must have someone who mentors you. This should be a someone that you learn from, who is more experienced than you are and who can guide you with their experience and knowledge. A mentor is more than an adviser; they create a platform where you can excel and can bring you to their level of opportunities. Hebrews 7:7 states, “Now beyond all contradiction the lesser is blessed by the better.”

Peers can also inspire you to do better. As long as their ideas and depth will challenge you to push harder and keep focusing on the prize of your high calling in life. Be sure that they are men and women of integrity and with honest report so that you can always count on their counsel.

Proteges are also necessary because this is an outlet to sow into peoples’ lives. When you go all out to help those you are less experienced than you are, you create more avenues to make a positive spiritual impact.

In all these relationships, you should have nothing short of inspiration and excellence. They will have a direct influence on your spirit and soul. Their interactions with you will determine the products of your spirit and soul. So you must consciously choose your relationships. Everybody cannot be part of your circle. It must be those whose credentials will support your progress in life. This should include the kind of books you read, teachings you listen to, and the environment you often find yourself.

Parents, siblings, boss, friends, pastors, television programs, teachers, and everyone else whom we have consistently listened to, have all influenced and triggered some sensitive aspects of our life and made us who we are today.

Remember you were not born with thoughts in your head. You learnt how to think and what to think, from the relationships around you. To get full control of your life, you must take full control of who you listen to and how your relationships influence the products of your spirit and soul.
