Understanding is a prerequisite to living successfully. The Bible admonishes that we get understanding with everything we get (Proverbs 4:7). Is life so challenging that many find it hard to navigate their paths? Or do we often underestimate the simplicity of the principles we need for our success?
A friend once said, “It is simple but not easy.” I want to agree with that statement. Some of the things we struggle with are not impossible; some are really simple, but our approach and interpretation of the issues coupled with our personality, contributes to what we experience.
There is a need for “Self-Understanding”; I mean the understanding of ones self. Why is it necessary to do a good study of yourself? Humans are like a system with many components working to produce different things. It is this awareness that creates a better approach to the challenges of life. If you do not know them, you may be working against yourself in achieving your goals in life.
Many of us are very conscious of our physical environment but have little knowledge of the other areas. Your body has little influence on the decisions of your life. Ironically, many people spend a lot of time and money on their physical appearance. Taking care of their outward appearance is of utmost importance but they create a little time to invest in their spirit and soul.
Your spirit is different from your soul; and your body is separate from both your spirit and soul. The simple approach to self-understanding is to know what is what, and how each one functions.
So how do your spirit, soul, and body fit into the equation of your life experiences? Until you take absolute control of what goes on in your spirit and soul, you are limited when it comes to shaping the direction of your life.
In the next teaching, I will highlight the importance of what I call the components of our system, which are our spirit, soul, and body. I will also discuss how they create classifications in our lives; and their impact in creating the results we live with daily.
